Biography
Nirab Gyawali is an experienced legal practitioner specializing in project finance, infrastructure development, and public-private partnerships (PPPs), with a focus on Nepal’s renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. He currently serves as a Legal and Institutional Expert at the Office of the Investment Board Nepal, where he advises on matters relating to foreign direct investment (FDI), public procurement, and cross-border transactional frameworks. His expertise includes the structuring and legal review of project financing arrangements and concession agreements, particularly for hydropower and solar energy initiatives, drawing on a solid foundation in both domestic and international legal standards.
Over the course of more than ten years in legal practice, Nirab has worked with leading law firms such as Pioneer Law Associates and Neupane Law Associates, where he counseled multinational corporations and state-owned entities on complex infrastructure projects, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory matters. His notable contributions include drafting model PPP by-laws, supporting the development of Nepal’s model Bilateral Investment Treaty, and advising on anti-money laundering (AML), taxation, and compliance issues. His practice also spans litigation, employment law, and digital economy services, reflecting his versatility as a legal advisor.
Nirab earned his LL.B from Kathmandu School of Law and is currently pursuing an LL.M at Peking University’s School of Transnational Law, where he has maintained a distinguished academic record. He has published scholarly and policy-oriented works on trade, investment, and China-Nepal legal relations and has received recognition in national and international moot court competitions and legal research forums. Fluent in English, Nepali, and Hindi, with working knowledge of Mandarin and ongoing studies in French, he is well-equipped to engage in legal advisory work on a regional and global scale, particularly in investment and infrastructure law.
